Effect of phosphorus application on fruit yield, quality and leaf nutrient content of Kew pineapple

In a trial carried out during 1979-84, the plant crop and 2 ratoon crops of rainfed pineapple Kew were given 0, 2, 4 or 6 g P2O5/plant annually. Application of P significantly increased fruit size and yield in the ratoon crops, but not in the plant crop. In all 3 crops, P application decreased fruit total soluble solids, acidity and total sugars, but increased ascorbic acid content. Leaf N and P contents were increased, and K, Ca and Mg contents were decreased by application of P.
