Effect of planting dates and plant spacing on some of the physical and chemical characteristics of Virginia flue-cured tobacco Nicotiana tabacum L. in northern Iraq

In a trial at Muan-Sulaimaniyah in the summer of 1983, tobacco Special was sown on 1, 13, 25 May or 6 June in rows 30, 40, 50 or 60 cm apart. Leaf thickness from sowing on 25 May was greater than that from sowing on 1 May or 6 June, whereas filling capacity from sowing on 13 May was greater than that from sowing on 1 May. Increasing row spacing to 60 cm increased leaf total alkaloid content to 1.55%.
