Effect of soil texture on the pathogenicity of pigeon pea cyst nematode, Heterodera cajani Koshy, 1967 on pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan

Of 4 soil types tested (loam, sandy, clay loam and sandy loam) in pot experiments, none had any effect on the pathogenicity of H. cajani on pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) T-9. Dry shoot and root weights and fresh root weight were significantly reduced at inoculum levels of 1000 and above in all soil types. Shoot length and fresh shoot weight were significantly reduced only at the 10 000 level. Nodulation was adversely affected at an initial inoculation level as low as 100.
