Black-and-White Friesian calves, average liveweight 40 kg, equal number of both sexes in groups of 10 were fed from 6 or 16 days old on a milk substitute of 60% dried skim milk (DSM), 15% whey, 6% yeast, 15% lard, 2% lecithin and 2% vitamins and minerals. In 3 groups 25, 50 or 75% of DSM was replaced by equivalent amounts of toasted soyabean protein.
