Effect of two sources of fat on digestion in sheep fed roughage diets

Effect of two sources of fat on digestion in sheep fed roughage diets

Recent advances in animal nutrition in Australia 1989: 30A

Mature rumen-cannulated sheep were offered roughage-based diets with calcium salts of long chain fatty acids (CaLCFA) or fat prills to enable comparison of their effects on digestion. In the 1st trial sheep were offered daily a rice straw-based diet for 6 weeks with CaLCFA 0 or 45 g. In the 2nd, 4 groups of 4 sheep were offered an oaten chaff-based diet for 5 weeks, supplemented with fat prills (F) or formaldehyde-treated cottonseed meal or both.
