Sorghum grown in solution culture with a higher proportion of ammonium than nitrate, at high temp. or 60% RH in combination with low Ca developed Ca deficiency symptoms. Ca concn in plant parts increased as the amount of nitrate or Ca in the solutions was increased. Plants grown with Ca(NO3)2 had highest Ca concn and DM yields followed by plants given urea, ammonia nitrate and ammonium sulphate. Lower leaves had more Ca than upper leaves reflecting Ca immobility.
