Effects of stimulated weed shade on soybean photosynthesis, biomass partitioning and axillary bud development

Field experiments utilizing simulated weed shading and band-pass filters were conducted to determine the effects of both PAR and light quality on photosynthesis and morphogenesis of soyabeans. Shades which removed 30, 51 and 73% of PAR, imposed from 2 to 6 weeks after soyabean emergence, reduced net photosynthetic CO2 exchange rates (PN) of soyabean leaves by 15, 28 and 44% resp. Likewise, PN decreased linearly with increasing shade.
