Effects of the GnRH analogue Buserelin and HCG on oestrus, ovulation and fertility of crossbred mares after treatment with PGF2 alpha

, : Effects of the GnRH analogue Buserelin and HCG on oestrus, ovulation and fertility of crossbred mares after treatment with PGF2 alpha. Revista Brasileira de Reproducao Animal 13(3): 143-150

48 crossbred mares were treated with 5 or 10 mg PGF2 alpha on day 5, 7 or 9 after ovulation (determined by means of rectal palpation), and received no further treatment (controls) or 0.04 mg Buserelin or 2000 IU HCG on the 2nd day of oestrus. Treatment with 10 mg PGF2 alpha resulted in the induction of oestrus in 87.5, 100 and 87.5% of mares treated on day 5, 7 and 9 resp. vs. 75% for all mares treated with 5 mg.
