Effects of tropical weeds on yields in white yam (Dioscorea rotundata Poir)

, : Effects of tropical weeds on yields in white yam (Dioscorea rotundata Poir). Weed Research, UK 29(1): 1-6

In studies in 1978-80, yams were grown outside in boxes in sterilised soil and separated from weed interference by plastic sheeting through which weed leachate was collected. Uncontrolled weed growth, where the foliage and roots of weeds were in contact with the crop until harvest, caused 76-79% reduction in yam tuber yields.
