Excretory secretory products (ESP) as antigens in ELISA for serodiagnosis of canine dirofilariasis

Excretory-secretory products (ESP) of Dirofilaria immitis mf, L3 and adult worms of various ages were tested as antigens in 3 ELISA systems. Data on ESP assays against homologous and heterologous sera from microfilaraemic and amicrofilaraemic dogs were compared with each other and with results of assays using crude extracts of these stages of the worm. Mf and L3/L4 ESP were found to be unsuitable for serodiagnosis.
