Exercise and exersense: the role of formal exercise in physical education

New Zealand Journal of Health, Physical Education and Recreation 23(2): 16-19

Physical education in New Zealand has matured in recent years. The paper traces the origins, development and use of formal exercise in New Zealand's physical education programmes and assesses the value of formal exercise in the context of modern physiology and 'mature' physical education. It concludes that the teaching of exercise is one of the most difficult and most underrated tasks which the physical educator undertakes.
