Exercises in the analysis of the structure of technological change in Uttar Pradesh agriculture

Exercises in the analysis of the structure of technological change in Uttar Pradesh agriculture

Development and change in India: 275-290

The paper identifies the main features of technological change in agriculture in Uttar Pradesh. In wheat and rice production: (1) total labour days per ha have not increased; (2) the share of hired labour has been constant; and (3) the share of casual labour in hired labour has risen substantially, thus suggesting the persistence of slack in the labour market.
