Existing cold hardy camellias at Massee Lane

Existing cold hardy camellias at Massee Lane

Camellia Journal 43(4): 20-21

Plant survival in a large collection of cultivars, following a severe frost (-5 degrees F) on 20 Jan. 1985, is discussed in relation to damage experienced at the same site in earlier winters and to cultural factors influencing cold resistance. When assessed in 1988, Camellia japonica Grace Albritton, C. vernalis Star Above Star, C. sasanqua Miss Ed and 2 unidentified cultivars of C. sasanqua showed the best survival.
