Exotic glasshouse vegetable crops: Dutch experiences

Exotic glasshouse vegetable crops: Dutch experiences

Acta Horticulturae ( 242): 269-276

Research and practical experience are discussed in relation to different aspects of growing 3 groups of exotic vegetables, viz. crops grown successfully on a limited scale, e.g. pakchoi (Brassica chinensis), Chinese cabbages, calabrese, and yard-long beans (Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis); crops which are no longer grown commercially, e.g. amsoi (Brassica juncea var. rugosa), maize, bunching onions (Allium fistulosum), watermelons, snake melons (Cucumis melo f. sp. flexuosus), and bitter gourds (Momordica charantia); and crops which are promising for commercial cultivation, e.g. pepino (Solanum muricatum), and babaco (Carica pentagona).
