Exotic tree species in the forest of Hallormstad, Iceland

Exotic tree species in the forest of Hallormstad, Iceland

Forst und Holzwirt 41(22): 605-609

An account of experience in tree planting at Hallormstad (E. Iceland) since 1903. In all, 34 species of conifers and 12 broadleaves have been tried (204 and 42 provenances, respectively). The correct provenances of Larix sukaczewii, L. sibirica, Picea engelmannii, P. glauca, and P. abies are promising, larches on the drier soils, and P. abies on moist sites. Pinus cembra and P. contorta are the most promising pines.
