The 1980s saw the US beef industry become a major player in the international scene creating an export market now valued at over $1000 million. To continue developing the market, the US cattle industry has to promote its product and overcome a variety of barriers in some difficult markets. Japan is the major export customer taking 70% of US beef exports.
