Expansion of use of draught power in the savannah region of Togo: social progress without significant economic progress

Expansion of use of draught power in the savannah region of Togo: social progress without significant economic progress

Cahiers de la Recherche Developpement ( 21): 60-72

Use of draught animals has experienced significant development in the far northern savannah region of Togo. Farm units that have adopted the technology tend to have a higher input endowment (labour, capital held in the form of cattle stock, etc.) than an average farm in the region. Given the high demographic pressure in the region, farm sizes are small resulting in an under-utilization of draught power.
