Expected shifts in cropping pattern under technological change among the hoe and ox-plough farmers in the Lilongwe Rural Development Project

Dividing farms in the Lilongwe Plateau Plain, Malawi, into two categories (depending on whether ox plough or hoe is used), the influence of various socioeconomic factors on the choice of cropping patterns is assessed. Using a multiple regression model, the independent variables studied are household savings and size, farm size, non-farm income, and age and educational status of household head.
