Preliminary calculations were carried out to explore the possibilities of greenhouse environmental control in a desert climate. A simple model of a photosynthesizing and transpiring crop was used in conjunction with a greenhouse model, to simulate the rate of photosynthesis on a typical hot and dry day. It was found that crop canopy temp. was the limiting factor of the assimilation process. Multi-level dynamic shading was effective in reducing canopy temp.
