Experience and effects of installation of pipe drainage on agricultural land in Yugoslavia

Pipe drainage installation on agricultural land in Yugoslavia started in the 1970s but since 1975, has become more intensive. By the end of 1987, of the 2,750,000 ha requiring drainage only 235,187 ha had been completed (of which 36.5% used pipe drains with filters). The yields of major agricultural crops achieved on land drained with these pipe-drains were 18 to 68% higher than on that with surface drainage.
