Experience in controlling red rice through the use of improved seed in Panama

Details of the extent of red rice contamination in rice seed in Panama are given. Methods used to improve seed quality include careful selection of producers, the use of new growing areas, and the importation of uncontaminated seed. The recently introduced rice seed certification scheme stipulates that seed lots must contain < 5% red rice.
