On the basis of experience with wild cherry in East Holstein (N. Germany), where there are 146 ha of P. avium in all age classes from 1-20 to >100 yr, details are given of plantation establishment and tending (weeding, thinning, pruning). The provenance problem is discussed; three local provenances are officially approved for seed harvesting.
