In the district of Frankfurt (Oder), German Democratic Republic, the predatory mite P. persimilis has been used for more than 6 years to control T. urticae in cucumbers under glass. The results differ between the 5 farms involved, effective biological control depending, above all, on the level of plant hygiene and the availability of staff experienced in propagating and releasing the predator in keeping with the results of continuous and accurate crop monitoring.
