The experience of the Coordinated Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) programme in Gutu, Zimbabwe is discussed. The main aspects of the CARD programme are highlighted though greater emphasis is focused on the livestock development project which seeks to address the problems of cattle production in the district. The background situation, some of the main causes of low livestock productivity and measures adopted to redress this are discussed.
