Experience with computer-aided virus testing at the Gross Lusewitz Institute for Potato Research

An account is given of developments in virus testing of potatoes at this Institute. ELISA was introduced in 1981. Only a limited range of antisera was available at first; later use of test kits together with improvements in instrumentation enabled extensive testing for all economically important viruses. In a further improvement, extinction values were fed directly into a microcomputer, enabling quantitative evaluation of virus concn relative to a standard.
