Experience, research and farmers' use of sulphur in food crop production in Indonesia

Sulphur deficiency, a problem of increasing importance in Indonesia, is the result of intensive agriculture, the use of high-yielding varieties, the increasing use of sulphur-free urea as the main source of nitrogen, decreased use of organic fertilizers, multiple cropping, and the removal of crop residues. The significance of sulphur in increasing lowland rice production was recognized about 15 years ago.
