The effects of applying ammonium sulphate or calcium ammonium nitrate at various rates to potatoes were compared with equivalent amounts of N given as the commercial fertilizer Alzon 22 containing 22.5% NH4-N and including 2.2% of the nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide. Av. tuber yields of crops given 80 or 120 kg N/ha were 1.6 and 2.6 t/ha higher, resp., with Alzon 22 than with the alternative N sources and differences tended to be greater on sandy-loam and loamy-sand than on gravel soil.
