Experimental Lyme arthritis in rats infected with Borrelia burgdorferi

Experimental Lyme arthritis in rats infected with Borrelia burgdorferi

Journal of Infectious Diseases 157(4): 842-846

Rats were inoculated with B. burgdorferi cultured from the midguts of Ixodes dammini collected from New York State. The rats were successfully infected and developed arthritis when inoculated at 3 days or 3 weeks of age. The arthritis persisted until 90 days after inoculation, at which point evaluation stopped.
