Experimental Salmonella enteritidis infection in chicks

Experimental Salmonella enteritidis infection in chicks

Veterinary Record 124(9): 223-223

One-day-old chicks that had been given feed artificially contaminated with one of six nalidixic acid-resistant mutants of S. enteritidis PT4 isolates were killed 2, 6 or 9 days later. No evidence of salmonellosis was observed in the chicks, no birds died and no gross lesions were seen in the visceral organs when the birds were examined post mortem. S. enteritidis was isolated from the caecal contents of all but 6 (4%) of the 146 birds.
