Experimental acaricidal efficacy of some acaricides against common bovine ticks

The efficacy of three acaricides belonging to different groups viz, Coumaphos (0.1%) Amitraz (0.025%) and Propoxur (0.2%) was evaluated on cattle and buffalo calves having mixed tick infestation with Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum and Boophilus microplus. The results revealed that Coumaphos and Amitraz showed better efficacy as compared to Propoxur on the basis of removal of ticks from the host and protection from reinfestation. The reinfestation occurred after 10 days in case of Coumphos and Amitraz, while in case of Propoxur it occurred after a week's time. Also Propoxur showed poor efficacy against Boophilus ticks as compared to others.
