By selfing individual long-styled plants and selecting for increased self fertility in an autotetraploid population of the variety Bol'shevik 4, the promising family 13 was obtained, one plant of which set >300 fruit by selfing (under isolators). Selection of the most self fertile plants was combined with cross pollination of the best families inter se. The population of long-styled plants showed considerable heterogeneity in respect of the fertility of the progeny.
