Experimental assessment of energy loss in rubber-metal tracks of caterpillar tractors

An experimental model of a caterpillar track was constructed to measure energy losses during movement. The model included the driving and guiding wheels and roller wheels with block suspension; the top part of the track consisted of 18 sections 140 mm wide. Amplitudes and frequencies of vibrations induced by operation were measured for track tension which varied between 3-9 kN.
