Treatment of 10 guineapigs and 10 cats with experimental dermatomycosis due to Microsporum canis with 5% mebethizole (2-mercaptobenzothiazole) ointment (Mebexide) resulted in more rapid resolution and elimination of fungi than in 18 control animals receiving conventional antifungal therapy.
