Experimental caprine retrovirus infection in sheep

Experimental caprine retrovirus infection in sheep

Veterinary Record 125(26-27): 649-649

Nine of 12 lambs, about 6 months of age, that had been inoculated experimentally with caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) seroconverted and the virus was regularly isolated from 7 of them by coculturing blood leukocytes with goat synovial membrane cells. None showed any clinical or pathological changes attributable to CAEV throughout a 140 week experiment. Two of the sheep that had been consistently viraemic at monthly blood sampling were kept for a further 140 weeks.
