Experimental cardiac transplantation and chronic Chagas' disease in dogs

Experimental cardiac transplantation and chronic Chagas' disease in dogs

Transplantation Proceedings 20(1 Suppl 1): 432-437

Chronically infected mongrel dogs were studied for signs of reactivation of Chagas' disease after cardiac transplantation and immunosuppression with cyclosporine A (CsA). Ten dogs were infected ip with Trypanosoma cruzi trypomastigotes and treated with subtherapeutic doses of nifurtimox for 10 days during the 5th and 6th weeks of infection.
