Experimental control of phialide type in Chalara

Experimental control of phialide type in Chalara

Current Science 58(12): 698-700

The Chalara state of Ceratocystis fimbriata produces 3 types of phialides on agar media. Characteristics of these phialides are described. Isolates I and II of Chalara from coconut kernels were used for still and shake cultures. In shake cultures the fungus sporulated within 24 h and all the phialides were of the long type. In isolate I short phialides appeared at 36 h, equalling the number of long phialides by 60 h. In isolate II long phialides dominated throughout.
