Experimental determination of incubation periods of the fireblight pathogen, Erwinia amylovora (Burrill) Winslow et al., in the field

Tests involving daily inoculation and indexing of different hosts in the field during May-Oct. over 3 yr showed that in spite of considerable variation, av. incubation periods after massive shoot inoculation were 4-8 d in apple, 4-10 d in pear and 3-6 d in Crataegus monogyna and Cotoneaster multiflorus, although they could be much longer under extreme conditions: first production of ooze on shoots was recorded up to 23 d post-inoculation.
