A total of 12 third-stage larvae of a Gnathostoma sp. taken from Hoplia microlepis (huanchiche, a freshwater fish from rice paddies in Samborondon canton, Guayaquil, Ecuador) were inoculated into the stomach of a cat. The cat began to eliminate eggs 8 months pi and, on surgical examination, 4 female and 1 male G. spinigerum were found in a 10 mm diameter intestinal tumour.
