Experimental infection of carrier pigeons with paramyxovirus-1

Experimental infection of carrier pigeons with paramyxovirus-1

Untersuchungen zur experimentellen Paramyxovirus 1 Infektion der Brieftaube: 80

Paramyxovirus strain "1829/83", isolated from clinically ill pigeons by J. Meister (1987), was inoculated i.m. into 28 pigeons free from paramyxovirus antibody. They were killed between 1 and 21 days after infection. In the 14 pigeons which became ill, the earliest sign was polyuria, starting on the 3rd day, while paralysis of the wings and legs became apparent at 5-7 days. The virus was recovered from various organs, until 19 days after infection.
