Experimental intoxication of guineapigs with sporidesmin: a model of intrahepatic cholestasis

Experimental intoxication of guineapigs with sporidesmin: a model of intrahepatic cholestasis

Revue de Medecine Veterinaire 140(8-9): 785-789

A single intraperitoneal administration of sporidesmin induced in the guineapigs a disease reproducing most hepatic effects observed in sheep: an initial asymptomatic phase lasting for about a week, then cholangitis and cholestasis, demonstrated by marked elevations of plasma alkaline phosphatases and gamma-glutamyl transferase; simultaneously, a severe liver cytolysis was responsible for increases of aminotransferases. Three weeks later, signs had greatly decreased.
