Experimental introduction of marjoram in the Main Botanic Garden of the USSR Academy of Sciences

In a study of up to 80 forms of Majorana hortensis from various regions of the USSR and abroad, in order to select material promising for green matter yield, essential oil content and seed production in the Non-chernozem zone of European Russia, the earliest to flower was form 215872 and the best for yield were GNBS from the Crimea (2.59 kg green matter/msuperscript 2 with 1.6% essential oil in the dry matter), 255546 from Czechoslovakia (2.56 kg/msuperscript 2, 1.56%) and GBS80 (2.42 kg/msuperscript 2, 1.65%). The highest seed production was noted in 216299 from Hungary (125 mg/plant).
