A freshwater life-cycle of H. aduncum was demonstrated experimentally. Third-stage larvae from naturally infected Hypomesus transpacificus nipponensis in Japan developed to the adult stage in experimentally infected Salmo gairdneri in fresh water. Larvae in eggs developed to the 2nd stage and hatched even in fresh water.
