Experimental mutagenesis in Capsicum annuum. IV. NMG, a potent mutagen

EUCARPIA VIIth meeting on genetics and breeding on capsicum and eggplant, Kragujevac, Yugoslavia, 27-30 June 1989: 25-29

Dry diploid seed (2n = 24) was treated with NMG (N-methyl-N-nitrosoguanidine) at various concentrations. The M2 was screened for mutations affecting the fruit. The segregation of pericarp colour mutations was studied in the M3. NMG was effective in inducing mutants with dark-red, yellow and orange pericarps that could be used in the improvement of cultivars. The frequency of fruit colour mutations increased with mutagen concentration, from 1.37% at a 0.0025% concentration to 3.16% at 0.01%.
