Experimental polyploids of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.). 2. Characteristics of autotetraploids

Experimental polyploids of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.). 2. Characteristics of autotetraploids

Izvestiya Sibirskogo Otdeleniya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Biologicheskikh Nauk (6/1): 117-123

In a comparison of diploids with colchicine-induced tetraploids and sectoral chimaeras it was observed that tetraploidy had no effect on pollen fertility and fruit set was only slightly reduced. However, fruits in tetraploids were on average 30% bigger than in diploids and had a faster growth rate.
