Experimental research on the soil flow and soil reaction beneath lugs of powered wheel

Experimental research on the soil flow and soil reaction beneath lugs of powered wheel

Proceedings, 9th International conference of the International Society for Terrain Vehicle Systems, held in Barcelona, Spain, 31 August 4 September 1987 Volume 2: 373-380

Specially designed equipment, including a soil box, model wheel with lugs, motor driven Minolta camera, dynamic strain amplifier and recorder, and microprocessor, was used to study the soil flow beneath lugs and measure simultaneously the soil reaction to lugs of a powered wheel. The dynamic performance of a lug wheel in a paddy field, established on the basis of actual soil failure patterns beneath lugs, was predicted. The soil failure patterns beneath a single lug were analysed.
