Experimental studies on laboratory mice selected for physical and psychological stress tolerance - direct selection responses

For 8 generations, lines from an outbred mouse population were selected divergently for treadmill performance or open-field activity score, or were unselected controls. The response to selection for high and low treadmill performance averaged 98 and -17 m per generation resp., and the performance of mice from the 2 selected lines was 50% greater and 42% less than that of controls after 8 generations.
