Experiments with sewage sludge in a broadleaved forest ecosystem on fine loam (I) C. The effect of sewage sludge on the soil fauna and structure of the topsoil of a beech forest

Experiments with sewage sludge in a broadleaved forest ecosystem on fine loam (I) C. The effect of sewage sludge on the soil fauna and structure of the topsoil of a beech forest

Mitteilungen des Vereins fur Forstliche Standortskunde und Forstpflanzenzuchtung, German Federal Re ic (31): 13-30

In studies in a 90-yr-old beech stand in W. Germany, the formation of blocking layers of litter-sludge-litter caused an initial destruction of the soil fauna, and during recolonization the mechanical properties of these layers acted as an obstruction, although the supply of easily decomposable organic matter was beneficial. The high content of heavy metals in the sludge did not appear to affect the soil fauna adversely.
