Faecal tests of sheep on pasture and the prevalence of Cysticercus tenuicollis in slaughtered sheep

Faecal tests of sheep on pasture and the prevalence of Cysticercus tenuicollis in slaughtered sheep

Angewandte Parasitologie 29(4): 227-234

In 1985-1986, 962 faecal samples from 9 sheep flocks in Southern Bavaria, German Federal Republic, were examined for helminths. Gastrointestinal worms were present in 25 to 100% of sheep kept in enclosures, in 62.5-100% of housed sheep and in 11.1-100% of free range sheep. Dictyocaulus filaria occurred in 6 of the 9 flocks with highest prevalences in free range flocks. The mean infection rates for other lungworms in the 3 groups of sheep were 25.4, 56.0 and 38.7%.
