Farm-stored wheat in Kansas: facilities, conditions, pest control, and cost comparisons

Two surveys of on-farm facilities and practices for wheat storage in Kansas were supplemented with farm inspections and bin samplings. The mean on-farm storage capacity was 22 118 bu/farm in 1986. Storage was concentrated with a few producers in the western third of Kansas. Nonaerated, flat-floor, metal bins were the most popular, followed by aerated, flat-floor and aerated, hopper-bottom bins. About 60% of all storage bins were equipped for aeration.
