Feed intake and milk yield of dairy cows given beet top silage or grass briquettes to appetite

Lactating cows of average body weight 525 kg were given to appetite beet top silage and grass briquettes containing 23 and 27% crude fibre together with roots, molasses, straw (0.5 to 0.7 kg DM/cow) and mixed grains at 4.5, 6.0 or 7.5 kg/cow daily. Daily intake of beet top silage was up to 10 to 12 kg DM, which decreased by 0.53 kg DM per kg additional grain mixture given. Mixed grains given at 7.5 kg/cow daily reduced the yield of milk fat.
